White Concrete Supplied for Blu-3 in Central London
Blu-3 is a leading construction and utility services company. It recently secured the contract to develop the hard landscaping at 100 Liverpool Street in Central London.
As part of this huge project, Blu-3 needed a big supply of white concrete for an exposed concrete feature wall. White concrete is a visually striking material that has an attractive marbled effect when finished. However, it is a relatively new material in the concrete industry and, due to its low compressive strength, there are not many concrete suppliers that will work with it.
Blu-3 needed a supplier that could experiment with the material to develop a white concrete mix that achieved the required finish and compressive strength. While other suppliers that Blu-3 approached couldn’t handle the experimentation or logistics, Rapid Readymix were happy to develop a bespoke mix design and provide flexible delivery.
How Rapid Readymix Produced Strong and Attractive White Concrete for Blu-3
To ensure that Blu-3 received white concrete that met their requirements, we conducted multiple tests and trials over a number of months. White concrete was a new material for Rapid Readymix, so we spent time experimenting with the mix to get it just right for Blu-3.
We trialled white aggregates and white cement along with grey cement, eventually opting for a 6–14mm white limestone for the aggregate. We tested the compressive strength at each stage by performing cube tests at our in-house testing laboratory in South London.
As the colour and finish of the concrete was hugely important for the feature wall, we experimented with different finishes to see which Blu-3 liked best. We used multiple techniques to create different effects, including sand blasting (shot blasting) and power washing. We also performed tests to check Blu-3 was happy with colour of the concrete.
We kept the white aggregate at our concrete yard in South London, where all our aggregates are kept in separated weather-protected bays. This meant that, if Blu-3 needed a short-notice delivery or to add extra loads to their order, we could sort it quickly.
A smooth and efficient white concrete delivery in Central London
We used our AGG SMART system to help us plan a smooth, time-effective route into Central London, planning for the various traffic restrictions. We kept Blu-3’s operatives updated throughout the journey so that they knew exactly when to expect us, enabling them to plan their work around the concrete delivery. With AGG SMART taking care of the logistics, we delivered Blu-3’s white concrete on time and without any unexpected delays.
Using our state-of-the-art volumetric mixers, we mixed Blu-3’s concrete fresh onsite and poured the bespoke white concrete mix for the feature wall. Following the pour, Blu-3’s operatives polished the concrete to give it a beautiful, highly aesthetic finish:
