high quality screed
Screed is an ideal material for creating a smooth, durable and long-lasting finish to a concrete floor or surface. It can either be used as an underlying layer for a final floor covering, such as tiles or wooden floorboards, or be left exposed. Here at Rapid Readymix, we offer quick and efficient delivery of high-quality screed for domestic building projects and commercial construction sites in London, Surrey and the South East.
What is the difference between screed and concrete?
Ready mixed screed and concrete are made up of the similar materials, and, when cured, they look similar. However, they have different qualities and do not serve the same purpose (check out our blog to find out more).
While concrete is strong and used as a functional, solid base, screed is less robust, and is often used as a top layer or finish for a concrete floor.
Screed is a soil-like type of concrete that consists of very fine bits of sand and cement. In its dry form, the maximum size of each grain of aggregate is 4mm. This means that, when the floor screed is mixed with water, it has a much smoother appearance than liquid concrete. So, it is often poured over uneven or rough concrete floors to give them a neat, even finish.
Why use FLOOR screed for underfloor heating?
As well as having a fine texture that makes it ideal for providing a smart finish to concrete floors, screed is also a good conductor of heat. For this reason, it is often applied over the top of underfloor heating pipes in order to enhance their heat-retaining abilities. Doing this can increase the efficiency of underfloor heating systems, resulting in cost savings.
