Our Facilities – Our Yard
We are dedicated to providing clients in London, Surrey and the South East with high-quality readymix concrete that is expertly batched and efficiently delivered. An essential part of this is properly looking after our team, concrete, pumps and vehicles, and having a large working area and a wealth of high-end equipment available. This is why our South London yard is integral to our services as a concrete supplier: it enables us to keep our mixers, aggregates and pump vehicles in excellent condition, and ensures that we can safely and efficiently load our mixers and get them to your building site – whether you need just one or an entire fleet.
Our yard
At 22,000 square feet, our yard provides us with enough space to properly store and look after our fleet of volumetric concrete mixers and pump vehicles. It also allows us to safely and efficiently load multiple mixers at the same time, which is essential as our fleet is constantly coming and going – travelling between the yard and building sites to load up, deliver concrete and then reload.
Weather-protected storage bays
Our sand, stone and other aggregates are stored in multiple separate storage bays that are protected from the weather – ensuring the materials are not exposed to rain (which can turn sand into clods) and that our concrete is always consistent when it is batched and delivered to your site.
Safe loading bays
Our loading bays are designed to protect our team from accidents. The loading process involves two operators: one to drive a JCB. We load the materials into the top of a mixer’s hopper, and one to stand on top of the mixer and make sure the loaded material is level and secure. We always use proper fall arrest equipment to prevent our operators from slipping.
High-end logistics offices
The Rapid Readymix team has access to a wide range of high-quality facilities at our modern headquarters in London, including sales and logistics offices, a concrete testing laboratory, and changing and shower rooms. We also have a number of meeting rooms where we conduct regular first aid training sessions, toolbox talks and administration tasks – all of which ensure that our team is properly equipped to deliver concrete safely and expertly.
In-house testing laboratory
We have an in-house testing laboratory that enables us to perform controlled concrete strength tests (or ‘cube tests’) on our concrete. It is equipped with water tanks, a concrete cube crusher, measuring scales, and is temperature controlled. This helps us ensure that our readymix concrete meets the expected compressive strength – and that we are conforming to the British Standards Institution (BSI) requirements. To conduct the test, we take a small cube of concrete from our mobile batching unit, let it cure for 1-4 weeks, and then crush it and measure its compressive strength.
