Introduction
Rapid Readymix was tasked with delivering concrete for a basement renovation project in Leatherhead, KT22. The project called for careful planning and innovative methods to address the specific constraints of the location. The use of a digger bucket played a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of this task.
Background
This project has been ongoing since March and, as of now, over 200 cubic metres of concrete have been delivered to the site. The location is situated in a private estate, which imposed restrictions regarding access and required coordination regarding estimated time of arrivals (ETAs) for deliveries. The project aimed at renovating a basement within this private estate.
Project Objectives and Requirements
For this particular delivery, 4 cubic metres of concrete were ordered, and 3.25 cubic metres were successfully delivered. A C35 mix was used, which is known for its strength and is ideal for basement construction.
One of the unique requirements for this job was cube testing on-site to ensure the strength of the concrete. This testing was performed during every delivery, ensuring that the concrete used met the desired standards.
Challenges and Solutions
The access restrictions due to the location within a private estate were one of the main challenges. The estate’s security required ETAs for deliveries, and only one truck was allowed on-site at a time.
Rapid Readymix addressed these constraints by coordinating closely with the estate’s security and scheduling deliveries with enough time gaps to ensure that one truck completed its pour before the arrival of the next. Allowing us to consistently deliver concrete on demand for the duration of the day.
For delivering the concrete to the exact location within the site, especially for constructing stairs, a digger bucket was employed. This approach allowed for small amounts of concrete to be poured into the bucket, which was then used to move the material into the formwork for the stairs. This technique ensured precision and efficiency in the concrete delivery process.
Results and Conclusion
By effectively communicating with the client and employing innovative methods, Rapid Readymix ensured that the delivery was completed smoothly without any delays. The client had informed Rapid Readymix about the works being carried out on the day, and Rapid Readymix adjusted the schedule accordingly to ensure no impact on subsequent deliveries.
