Brief Summary

Rapid Readymix recently took on a challenging project involving a basement and apartment refurbishment in Balham, SW12. Specialising in fast, reliable and competitively-priced ‘ready mix concrete’ and ‘concrete delivery,’ we were the go-to choice for this property’s complete gut out and renovation.

Job Background

The concrete pour was located in Balham, SW12 — on a quiet road with no traffic issues. The client required a complete refurbishment of an existing property, removing all current fittings and starting anew. As part of this renovation concrete slabs were required at the rear of the property.

Job Requirements

The job was scheduled between 10 am and 12 am, and our pump arrived on-site promptly at 09:59. Utilising C30 concrete mix, known for its durability and suitability for heavy-traffic areas, we ensured the job met the highest quality standards.

Good communication was key—our team used AggSmart technology to pinpoint the exact location of the job site, as it didn’t have a straightforward address. We also contacted the site five minutes before arrival for barrier removal and safe entry.

The Role of a Ground Line Pump

The client hired one of our ground line concrete pumps – which played a significant role in the project’s efficiency. Our team first installed the pipeline from the roadside, up into the property and then through the site to the rear. Concrete was then poured from our mixer into the pump.

The average concrete pump hire requirement is up to 20 metres of pipeline, but in this case at least 40 metres of pipe was required. Rapid Readymix is always prepared to supply over 100 metres if needed.

Using the pump on this job was considerably faster than trying to use wheelbarrows and dumpers as access was very restricted.

Constraints and Challenges

Access and Noise Control

Access to the site was straightforward, and the team was well-prepared. The local regulations limited work hours from 8am-5pm, but no other schedule limitations were in place.

Techniques and Hardware Used

Tools and Methods

A 40m landline pump was used to ensure that the ready mix concrete could be delivered to both the rear and front of the property. AggSmart technology was employed again to direct the mixer to the areas with the least congestion, ensuring efficient concrete delivery.

Conclusion and Client Feedback

Project Success

The project was a success, with the team arriving onsite at 09:59 and completing work by 11:22. The client, who has worked with Rapid Readymix for several years, was satisfied with the service, reinforcing our reputation for excellence and keen attention to detail.
