Introduction
Rapid Readymix undertook a project located in Hampstead, NW3, focused on constructing a basement and exterior slab. The project entailed the delivery of readymix concrete in large quantities. To facilitate efficiency, a concrete pump with a 30m line was used to transport the material directly to the construction site.
Background
The project site had received over 80 cubic metres of concrete in previous deliveries, and the work is still ongoing. One of the critical aspects of the project was ensuring the consistent turnaround of trucks, especially during larger pours. To achieve this, multiple trucks were dispatched, each released 20 minutes apart. This strategy was necessary due to the site’s location and traffic conditions.
The primary objective of this project was the construction of a basement, which required the use of specialised concrete mixes.
Project Objectives and Requirements
36 cubic metres of concrete were ordered, and the final amount actually required was 33.75 cubic metres. Masterpel waterproofer additive was also included in the mix design to ensure the longevity and durability of the basement structure.
The use of a pump for the delivery proved to be highly efficient, with the on-site duration from the first mixer’s arrival to the last one’s departure being only 2 hours and 9 minutes.
Challenges
One of the anticipated issues was access restrictions, but this was mitigated by thorough preparation and ensuring all drivers were familiar with the site setup.
