Why Should I Care About Concrete Quality?

Choosing low quality concrete might seem like a cheaper option at first, but it can cause costly problems in the future.

At Rapid we know that concrete intended for structural work should always meet
strict standards

Rapid’s certified concrete might cost a little bit more, but you’re guaranteed not to run into the following issues:

Cheap Materials

Cheaper concrete means the materials used to batch up the concrete will be of a poorer quality and may include recycled concrete or building waste!

So there’s no way to tell how strong the final batched concrete will be.

Rapid uses trusted nationwide suppliers for our premium aggregates and cement. We source and store them separately, and load our volumetric concrete mixers correctly, with one side of the hopper for sand, and one for stone. So we can ensure precise ratios of sand to stone in each mix design.

We keep our high-quality aggregates in weather-protected bays to keep it safe, dry and in the best condition before delivery.

Poorly Maintained Plant

Old volumetric concrete mixers, or mixers that aren’t regularly maintained and calibrated, can be unreliable when it comes to mixing up your concrete.

Rapid has a fleet of the latest model mixers, all calibrated to BSI standards. We are one of the only concrete suppliers in South London to use separated volumetric mixers, giving our team control and precision when it comes to mix ratios for each customer.

No Assurances

Rapid Readymix offers BSI Certified concrete. This requires high-quality materials and regular testing to ensure concrete is up to standard.

Our in-house London concrete testing laboratory allows us to assess and assure the quality of our concrete on a daily basis.

Concrete is tested by creating a small cube of concrete, batched to a predetermined strength, allowing it to cure for 28 days and then crushing the cube using a special machine to see how much pressure the cube can handle before it breaks.

Cheap concrete suppliers just can’t give you the assurances that Rapid can.

Why Does It Matter If I Use Cheap Concrete?

Usually, an architect will call for a specific strength grade of concrete to be used on a project.

It’s the builder’s job to ensure they use the specified concrete.

Cheap concrete comes with no guarantee that it will meet the specifications required. Rapid’s certified concrete comes with actual proof that it is strong enough to meet structural needs.

Risks Of Cheap Concrete

Unfortunately, using substandard concrete for structural work runs the risk of cracking, crumbling or even collapse. Several recent high profile cases of basement collapses in London illustrate the dangers of compromising on building materials and concrete quality.

Rapid are experts in providing safe, reliable, high-quality basement concrete.
